About Felt |
||
Wet-Felting is a process of making fabric going back some 4000 to 8000 years. It was, in fact, the first form of fabric, predating the development of weaving in ancient societies. Felting was most utilized among people who lived along the route from the Middle East to China where the craft is still practiced today to make clothing, hats and cover homes, as it is unsurpassed for its ability to insulate against the cold and resist both fire and water. Felting has even had an important role in the mythology of many cultures and effigies of gods and blankets for inaugurating kings have been discovered, all made of felt. Today, Felt enjoys many craft and industrial uses and is appreciated around the world for its versatility and function. The possibilities are endless! Wool is a renewable resource and a healthy component of a sustainable ecology.
